🧾 What is a Notary Public?

A Notary Public is an individual authorized by the province to perform certain legal formalities, particularly to:

  • Witness or attest the execution of documents

  • Administer oaths and solemn affirmations

  • Certify documents as true copies of the original

  • Acknowledge signatures

  • Authenticate identity for domestic or international transactions

  • Prepare affidavits, declarations, and other sworn statements

In Ontario, lawyers are automatically Notaries Public, meaning they are not only authorized to notarize documents, but also trained in the legal implications of what you’re signing—providing added assurance.

🖋️ What is a Commissioner of Oaths?

A Commissioner of Oaths is a person authorized to take oaths, affirmations, and declarations required by law. They cannot certify copies or notarize documents for international use. At Paramount Law, our legal professionals are authorized to act as both Commissioners and Notaries, so no matter your document type, we can assist you legally and efficiently.
